Did you know? According to a study by the Gallop Organization and Consumer Reports,
dentists are among the top five most trusted professionals. What do powdered fruit, talc, honey, dried flowers,
mice and lizard livers have in common? They have all been ingredients
in ancient toothpaste and powder. Yum. Attention Chocolate Lovers…Many dentists agree
raisins can cause more tooth decay than chocolate. Sticky foods such
as raisins and dried fruits can stay on the teeth longer and develop
more decay.
According to a study at the University of Connecticut, too much toothpaste
early in life is responsible for more than 70% of fluorosis cases (staining
or mottling of tooth enamel that develops when children swallow fluoridated
toothpaste). Although this problem is only cosmetic, it is recommended
children under six only use a pea-sized amount of toothpaste and be reminded
to spit it out after brushing.

Long-Term Protection Without Detection
The back teeth, molars and sometimes pre-molars have deep
grooves on the chewing surfaces. These grooves can be so
deep and narrow that it can be impossible to clean down in
the grooves. Bacteria, however, have no problem getting down
to the full depths of these grooves and causing decay that
can be hard to detect until it is quite advanced. Dental
sealants now offer a means of successfully protecting molar
and premolar chewing surfaces from decay. Recognized by the
American Dental Association as a key means of cavity prevention,
dental sealants are a thin resin film that can be applied
to your at-risk tooth surfaces.
The same advanced bonding techniques used for cosmetic
dentistry are used to bond the sealants in the grooves to
seal out bacteria. The entire procedure is not only painless,
but fast: requiring between ten and forty-five minutes, depending
on the number of teeth we're sealing. The cost of a sealant
is much less than the cost of a filling, and it is an excellent
investment to protect teeth from getting cavities at all.
Over the years they can wear down, and should be checked
regularly, which is another important reason for regular
examinations and cleanings.

Whitening Can Give You The Smile You Always Wanted
Anyone can have the confidence that a bright, white smile
can give you these days. Tooth whitening is safe, effective
and long lasting. There are two main methods to get excellent
results. We can provide a custom Home Tooth Whitening Kit,
or teeth can be whitened in the office. Each has different
advantages, and each addresses different situations. Simply
talk with us about your concerns and what you want to achieve,
and a dazzling whiter smile can be yours.
If
you are thinking of other cosmetic improvements, such as
crowns, porcelain veneers, or just replacing old discolored
fillings, it may be worth considering whitening your teeth
first, and any restorations we make for you can be matched
to the whitened teeth, to give an overall great result.

Take Your Smile From Average to Dazzling
Many
people desire a brighter, cleaner, more attractive smile,
but have chipped, stained, discolored, unevenly spaced, or
even slightly crooked front teeth. If this sounds like you,
we will be glad to help evaluate your specific situation,
listen to the exact changes you have in mind, and show you
examples of the end result, before any treatment is performed.
Often, porcelain veneers can provide a completely improved
and dazzling smile in just a few appointments.
The actual treatment usually involves only two visits.
The number of pre-operative visits, to work out details to
insure predictable results, depends on the complexity of
your situation and the changes you desire. There usually
is a follow up visit or two for final adjustments and polishing,
and to review instructions for care of your new smile to
insure it lasts years and years.
