Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is often promoted as a miracle solution for everything from weight loss to oral detoxing. Some people use it as a mouth rinse or drink it straight, believing it can cleanse the mouth or whiten teeth.

In reality, apple cider vinegar is highly acidic and can erode your enamel with repeated use. Once enamel is worn down, it doesn’t grow back—leaving your teeth more vulnerable to cavities, sensitivity, and discoloration. If you’re looking for a healthier mouth, regular brushing and professional cleanings are far more effective (and safer) than swishing with vinegar.

Activated Charcoal for Teeth Whitening

Charcoal toothpaste has gained a lot of popularity as a “natural” teeth whitener, but dentists aren’t on board with this one either. Activated charcoal is abrasive, and frequent use can wear down enamel and even cause gum irritation.
